Pet Travel - Good Solid Advice When Traveling With Your Dog By Car (Part 2)

1. When you travel do you experience stress, physically and mentally exhausted, and get overwhelmed with new locations, new smells, and different driving routes? If you can imagine how your dog must feel. When a dog experiences mental and physical stress they may also experience diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration –just to name a few. Do you want to keep your dog from getting over anxious and stresses and avoid these symptoms? The best way to accomplish this is while traveling in the car is to do your best to keep the surrounding area inside as normal as possible.  An automobile seat cover can make the trip more comfortable.

This can be done with simply bringing along a few things that are familiar to them such as blanket or toys. You should also bring their normal everyday regular organic food and refrain from feeding them anything different along the way. If possible, reduce your dog's vision of the outside by placing him in the back seat in covering up the windows. Basically, do anything you can to give your dog a feeling that he is at home while you're traveling.

2. Most dog owners know that a dog will go nuts for an open window to feel the wind in the face and smell all the new scents. But what most owners don’t know is that this can be a pathway to injury or even death. There are many reported deaths of dogs jumping out of car windows while traveling. As you can imagine this could not be a pleasant experience for anyone. Not you and especially not your dog. So play it safe and resist the temptation to see that big smile on your dog's face as he sucking in every bit of air while traveling down the highway.  Use a doggie seat belt harness for extra protection.

3. The best remedy to car travel problems when it comes to your dog is to simply leave your dog home altogether. I realize that this may seem like common sense, but the fact of the matter is that your dog may not enjoy the trip as much as you would like to think.

Are you bring him along for his benefit or for yours? This is a question you probably haven't thought of but if it's a matter of just tagging your dog along because you like his company then you might consider that he would be happier staying at home.
